Writing in fits and starts...

That seems to be my style lately.

I spend some days with my nose buried in my laptop. Writing, rewriting, editing, expanding, contracting, adding characters, killing characters (hate that part), conjuring new worlds and environments and generally reveling in the excitement.

Other days I stare at the page and think about lunch and a beer.

Or watch Lord of the Rings for the hundredth time. Which I thoroughly enjoy, but feel guilty about later. ;-)

I've never had a writer's discipline. Yes, I try to write SOMETHING everyday and I generally manage that task. It may only be a paragraph or two. It may be starting a new story after reading my barely legible notes from a late night inspirational thought, but I try to do get something written down.

My latest WIP is really several WIPs, done as the Muse directs me. I'm afraid if I just work on one piece and ignore all those cool new ideas that I'll lose them. They'll evaporate into the ether with the bazillion other ideas I've had.

I have notebooks full of sketches, notes, and outlines.

I'm a mess, there is no two ways about it.

But. I enjoy the mess, none the less. I guess...

Keep writing. Keep imagining. Keep playing with words and ideas.

It feeds your soul.

Happy 4th of July, my Friends!

On this 249th anniversary of our Independence, I'd like to wish you all a safe, respectful Holiday!

We're looking forward to brats on the grill, baked beans with brown sugar and bacon, a nice cold tomato and cucumber salad,  a glass of iced tea or a cold brew, and friends to share the day with. We even have a red, white and blue cheesecake to end our feast!

We plan on playing some cards until dusk and then sitting out on the patio to watch the fireworks.

Simple pleasures.

I give thanks to our brave men and women of the Armed Forces, Fire Departments, Police and other service members who cannot celebrate with their loved ones on this day.

Thank you for serving and protecting us.

Enjoy the day, my friends.
