"Lizzie!" he yells and starts to run forward. "Damn it, Lizzie, where are you going?" Chills of fear start to creep up Alan's spine as he jogs to where she entered the woods.
The path is almost invisible between the trees, but Alan runs forward, determined not to lose sight of Lizzie. Rounding a large pine tree, he almost slams into her. She's standing still, her gaze transfixed somewhere in front of her.
Alan follows her gaze to another tiny cemetery, almost hidden in a patch of aspens. The pale trees also shelter a small stone building, set to one side.
There are only three crosses. They are stone, like the ones in the front of the main cemetery. The plots are all in a line, all inside a deteriorating stone and wood fence. There are brilliant mountain flowers overflowing inside the gates.
The stone pillars in front have an iron gate between them, but it is set into the pillars so that it cannot open. “That’s bizarre. Why have a gate if you can’t open it?” he mutters.
