I love PC games! Since my first PC, a TRS 80 I've played and sometimes written games.
Here's are some of my favorite things about PC gamesl
= Sandy Petersen posted on Twitter: "Canonically, Commander Keen is BJ Blascowitz's grandson (from Wolfenstein). Yes I know Wolfenstein was done after Commander Keen. We also had declared internally at id that the Doom guy is Commander Keen's son or grandson, but we hadn't decided which when I left id Software in 1997."
I played both of these for hours!!!
= I collect old 8bit computers. I started my programming career writing Basic Games I typed in from Byte, Micro and 'dr. dobb's journal of Computer Calisthenics and Orthodontia ... Running Light Without Overbyte'. What a great name for a Nerd magazine! ;-) It had wonderful tips, algorithms and software, and editorials that I ate up like candy! My love for 8bit software exists even today. Back then I could write machine code on bare-metal processors like the 6502, Z80, 6800 and others. Lots of drivers and TSRs (Terminate and Stay Resident programs).
Anyone else remember those halcyon days?
